About Sister Jonnie Dawson

Sister Jonnie Dawson has been given honor as recipient of the GILLESPIE-ARMMER Award.

"Helping The Community Is Everybody's Responsibility"

Sister Jonnie Dawson

Jonnie had a knack for getting to the heart of the problem and finding an adequate solution -- a tremendous asset to MLGW, IBEW, and anyone who knew her. She stood steadfast in her beliefs for the rights of others as she swiftly hand fed discrepancies with tact, diplomacy, integrity, loyalty, dignity, and grace. She performed her responsibilities exceptionally well...over-and-beyond the call of duty.   Due to her outstanding organizing skills, we reached a record breaking number of new members in the history of IBEW Local 1288 Union.
In 1979, Sister Jonnie Dawson was hired at MLGW as a Keypunch Operator. A year later, she was promoted to Service Advisor. I noticed her natural ability to get along with others, her professionalism, and her dedication to helping the employees of MLGW. It was obvious why, in June 2001, I appointed Jonnie Dawson as my Assistant Business Manager...one of the best decisions I've made for IBEW Local 1288.
Knowing that the GILLESPIE-ARMMER Award was established in recognition of two great pioneers, Harold K. Gillespie, Jr. and Lonzofa Armmer,"...for the sole purpose of recognizing those individuals who have given unselfishly of themselves toward the betterment of the Local Union...", it is apparent that Sister Jonnie Dawson qualified for this award. It continues to honor great people who do an outstanding job representing those in real need of justice and fairness.
On Tuesday, April 29th, before and after her funeral, it was even more evident that Sister Dawson was unequivocally deserving of this most prestigious award. So many people came forward and spoke honestly and openly about her attributes. She was a true soldier of justice who fought for the rights of everyone.
Based on all of the above, the IBEW Local 1288 Executive Board awards Sister Jonnie Dawson as the 9th honored recipient of the GILLESPIE-ARMMER Award., since the recognized Union in 1970. Her impeccable reputation speaks for itself!
It is with Jonnie's tenacity that We will continue to work even harder to serve You.
